Makeba Dixon-Hill

Teaching Style

Makeba’s classes are deep explorations of the body to identify what feels good and where areas of transformation lie. Her background in art therapy, education and movement roots the experience in ease, care, compassion, deep engagement, and creativity. Expect a few surprises along the way with the incorporation of practical tools that you can take off the mat and into the world to heal yourself and expand your practice.

How Yoga Serves Makeba

Makeba’s yoga practice operates like the imaginary friend she had as a kid– accessible always in all ways, able to offer answers to any of her questions, and a safe accepting place to be all of her selves in.

Words of Wisdom

Nothing let’s go until it feels compassionately supported.

Background

Makeba’s first interaction with yoga was as a child through her mother. Soon after, she began formally practicing mindfulness, and this journey afforded her with opportunities to train in yoga, meditation, and other spiritual practices in Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Portugal and Peru.

Her commitment to the healing arts, community service, and culture led her to complete a Hatha yoga teacher training program at Kashi Atlanta Urban Yoga Ashram under the guidance of Swami Jaya Devi. Makeba is also a certified Holistic Prenatal yoga instructor through Cherished Life Yoga and Wellness under the guidance of Vanya Francis and a Tantric meditation teacher under the guidance of Tracee Stanley.

Makeba is also a sound artist and is currently writing a children’s book on fear, spirituality and the bond between grandchildren and grandparents.
