Teaching Style
Asia puts a lot of time, thought, intention, and creativity into her sequences (and playlists)! Students can expect flows that feel dancey and organic, but also fresh and challenging.
How Yoga Serves Asia
Asia sees yoga as a tool for community-building, an avenue by which to expand awareness of / deepen interconnectivity with all living things, and a discipline in readying bodyminds for revolutionary change! Over the past few years, she has started organizing and leading two community class series in addition to studio teaching: a Yoga for Socialists series (free) and a Yoga for Palestine series (donation-based, to raise money for Gaza). These classes have been incredibly nourishing and rewarding, and have significantly enriched her personal practice as well as her instruction.
Words of Wisdom
Yoga is a dialectical practice (think contraction/expansion, activation/deactivation, movement/stillness… and, of course, inhale/exhale)! It helps us tap into and get comfortable navigating the contradictions that propel life forward.
Background
Asia was born in Tehran, Iran, to an Iranian mother and a Spanish father; she holds both cultures close to the chest! She has been an avid student of yoga for 20 years, and a teacher for the past three. In addition to teaching yoga and fitness, Asia is a multimodal artist, an anti-imperialist Marxist, an animal enthusiast, and a PhD candidate in UGA’s Theatre and Performance Studies department. Her doctoral research focuses on performances (literal and otherwise) involving humans and domesticated animals.
